Kentucky State Police Investigates Fatal Crash in Franklin County

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 10, 2026) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team has been requested by Post 12 in Frankfort to investigate a fatal crash that occurred in Franklin County on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at approximately 9:16 a.m. EST. Kentucky State Police Post 7 Richmond was dispatched to locate a homicide suspect from Georgia. Troopers from Post 7 and the Berea Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle, a grey Honda Civic. The vehicle failed to yield, and the suspect initiated a pursuit, continuing northbound on I-75 and reaching speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. The pursuit continued westbound on I-64, entering Franklin County, where Post 12 Frankfort Troopers picked up the suspect. Numerous attempts were made to end the pursuit using tire deflation devices. The suspect’s vehicle then crossed the median into oncoming traffic at approximately the 50-mile marker, striking a commercial motor vehicle traveling eastbound. The operator of the commercial vehicle, Marcus Boughten, age 50 of Waco, TX., was uninjured in the collision. The operator of the Honda Civic was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Franklin County Coroner. Due to the nature of the crash, the suspect has not been positively identified.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing. KSP was assisted during the pursuit by the Berea Police Department, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the Lexington Police Department, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and the KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit.
