UPDATED: KSP Investigates Deaths of Three Family Members in Leslie County

 Update: (December 12, 2018) – Paul Douglas Sizemore has been charged with murder in the deaths of Larry, Norma and Chad Bowling.  Information gathered through the initial investigation led Detective Clayton Stamper to obtain an arrest warrant on Sizemore for three counts of murder.  The warrant was served in addition to the warrant charging him with attempted murder of a police officer.  Paul Douglas Sizemore was lodged in the Leslie County Detention Center, not Kentucky River Regional Jail, as was listed in an earlier release.

Update: (December 12, 2018) – Paul Douglas Sizemore, the man wanted for the attempted murder of a Kentucky State Police Trooper has been arrested.  KSP Post 13 received a call at 10:50 this morning from a residence in the Cutshin community of Leslie County advising that Paul Douglas Sizemore was outside the home.  Lieutenant Jackie Joseph responded to the call and observed a man walking in the middle of KY 699 in the vicinity of the where Sizemore was recently seen.  Lt. Joseph confronted the man who immediately surrendered without resisting.  Trooper Randall Coots arrived a short time later and took Sizemore into custody.  Sizemore was not armed and complained of pain to his feet from prolonged exposure to cold weather conditions.  Tpr. Coots transported Sizemore to Post 13 for processing of pending arrest warrants and for possible questioning in relation to the death investigation involving Larry, Norma and Chad Bowling.  Paul Douglas Sizemore will be taken to Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital for medical clearance before being lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard.

Yeaddiss, Ky. (December 11, 2018) Three people were found shot to death at their homes Monday evening in Leslie County.  Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard was contacted by Leslie County EOC dispatch just before 7:00 p.m. advising they had received a call of a possible shots fired situation on Wolf Creek Road in the Yeaddiss community.  Leslie County Sheriff’s Deputies were responding to a residence on Wolf Creek Road, while KSP Troopers were dispatched to assist. 

 

While responding to the scene Trooper Ethan Lewis’ cruiser was intentionally rammed by an oncoming passenger car on Coon Creek Road in the area of the shots fired complaint.  The driver of the car got out and fired shots at Tpr. Lewis then fled on foot.  Tpr. Lewis was not injured.  A short time late Leslie County Deputies discovered two bodies inside the residence they were responding to on the shots fired complaint.  A third body was located outside of a neighboring residence.  Leslie County Coroner Greg Walker responded to the scene and pronounced the three victims deceased.  All three had sustained apparent gunshot wounds.  The victims were identified as 64 year old Larry Bowling and his wife, 61 year old Norma Bowling of Yeaddiss.  The third victim was the couple’s 38 year old son, Chad Bowling of Yeaddiss.  Autopsies will be performed at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort. 

 

At this time, no perpetrators have been identified or located in connection to the Bowling deaths.  Information gathered during the initial investigation led KSP investigators to obtain an arrest warrant for one count of Attempted Murder of a Police Officer on 52 year old Paul Douglas Sizemore in relation to Tpr. Lewis being shot at and having his car rammed.   

Members of the public are urged to contact KSP Post 13 at 606-435-6069 if they have information concerning Sizemore’s whereabouts.  Paul Douglas Sizemore should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached if seen.  He is described as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing approximately 198 pounds.  He has green eyes and dark hair.  Information can be conveyed through KSP’s public webpage, social media sites and the KSP mobile app.  Detective Clayton Stamper with KSP Post 13 is leading the death investigation with assistance from Post 13 personnel, KSP Special Response Team and KSP Aircraft section.
