Kentucky State Police Investigate Leslie County Fatal Fire

Hyden, Ky (February 14, 2026) – On Friday, February 13, 2026, at approximately 10:53 p.m., Kentucky State Police, Post 13 Hazard, was notified of a residential structure fire along Highway 421 in the Hyden community of Leslie County.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and successfully extinguished the fire. During a subsequent search of the residence, the remains of three individuals were discovered inside the home. Detectives with Kentucky State Police responded and initiated an investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate the deceased individuals are believed to be the residents of the home: Lisa Marcum, 56; Jadeana Begley, 50; and June Nantz, 84, all of Hyden. All three were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Leslie County Coroner’s Office.

At this time, no foul play is suspected. The remains have been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for autopsies. The investigation remains ongoing and is being led by Detective Nathan Roark.
