Kentucky State Police Investigate Letcher County Death

Blackey, KY (May 22, 2024) – On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at approximately 2:08 P.M, Kentucky State Police, Post 13, Hazard, received a call in reference to a missing juvenile on Ky 588 located in the Blackey community of Letcher County.

Troopers, along with Letcher Fire and Rescue responded to the scene to begin the search. Shortly after the search began, members with the Fire Department located 11-year-old, Curtis Cash Halcomb, non-responsive in the creek. Life saving measures were taken as he was transported to Whitesburg A.R.H, where Halcomb was pronounced deceased.  

Detectives responded to the scene and launched an investigation into the death. Halcomb was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort, pending autopsy. At this time, no foul play is suspected. This incident remains under investigation by Detective Bradley Couch.
