Kentucky State Police Investigate Fatal Lawn Mower Accident

Kite, KY (July 30, 2025) – On Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at 2:49 P.M, Kentucky State Police, Post 13, Hazard, received a 911 call in reference to a lawn mower accident on KY Highway 7 South located in the Kite community of Knott County.

Troopers, along with medical personnel responded to the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates that Thomas J. Johnson, 64, of Kite lost control of his lawn mower causing it to go over an embankment. The mower overturned trapping Johnson underneath.

Johnson was pronounced deceased on scene by the Knott County Coroners Office. Toxicology results are pending, this incident remains under investigation by Trooper Zach Neice.
