
KSP Investigating Shooting Death in Letcher County
Jenkins, Ky. (July 6, 2020) – A man was shot and killed during a burglary incident early this morning in Letcher County. Troopers with Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 13 responded to a complaint in the Jenkins community at around 2:38 A.M., following calls advising of a shooting at a residence on Highway 805. Jenkins Police Department and Neon Ambulance were also called to the scene.
The initial investigation determined that James Duncan entered a residence belonging to Justin and Kimberly Robinson, without their consent. The Robinsons and Duncan became involved in a confrontation inside the home which resulted in James Duncan being fatally wounded by gunfire. Letcher County Deputy Coroner Derek Meade responded and pronounced 39 year old James Russell Duncan deceased at the scene.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort later today. No charges have been filed in relation to this incident but the case will be presented to the Letcher County Grand Jury when the investigation allows.
