Kentucky State Police Post 13 Hazard Welcomes New Commander

Hazard, KY (August 15, 2025) – Kentucky State Police, Post 13 in Hazard, proudly announces the appointment of Captain Ryan Catron as the new Post Commander. A dedicated law enforcement professional with over two decades of service, Captain Catron brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and community connection to his new role.

Captain Catron began his distinguished career with the Kentucky State Police in 2002 as a member of Cadet Class #79. Upon graduation, he was assigned to Post 8 in Morehead, where he served as a trooper. In 2005, he transferred to Post 13 in Hazard, beginning what would become a long and impactful relationship with the region.

Over the years, Catron has held a variety of leadership roles across the state. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2009 and assigned to Post 10, Harlan, where he served as Detective Sergeant. In 2011, he returned to Post 13 as a Squad Sergeant before his promotion to Lieutenant in 2012, which saw him reassigned to Post 10 as Investigative Lieutenant. Two years later, he again returned to Post 13 in the same capacity.

In August 2017, Catron was promoted to Captain and returned to Post 10, Harlan, where he served until 2022. He then transferred to Post 11, London, where he served as Captain until August 2025. During his time at Post 11, Captain Catron marked over 20 years of service with the Kentucky State Police.

In addition to his work in the field, Captain Catron has also served in the KSP Inspections and Evaluations Branch, further broadening his leadership experience within the agency.

Captain Catron’s deep-rooted ties to Eastern Kentucky and his extensive career across multiple KSP posts—including Hazard, Harlan, and London—uniquely position him to lead Post 13 with both insight and dedication.
