Hazard, Ky. (August 9, 2018) – A Leslie County man has died after being injured in a vehicle crash earlier in the week. Kentucky State Police Post 13 was contacted by Leslie County Emergency Operation Dispatch Center on Monday morning, August 6, at 8:10 a.m., advising of a three vehicle collision on the Hal Rogers Parkway. The scene was near the 46 mile marker in Leslie County. Master Trooper Rob Farley responded to the scene to investigate. Leslie County Sheriff’s Deputies, Thousandsticks Fire Department and Trans Star Ambulance also assisted at the crash site.
The preliminary investigation determined that a 2000 Honda CRV was traveling east on the Parkway. The CRV crossed the center line and entered the westbound lane where it sideswiped a 2005 Ford Ranger driven by Donald Jackson of Isom, KY. The Honda continued eastbound, colliding head-on with a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe which was driven by 41 year old Sherry Miller of Big Creek in Perry County. The Honda overturned causing the driver, 54 year old Bobby Morgan of Stinnett to be ejected. Trans Star Ambulance transported Sherry Miller, Donald Jackson and Daisy Jackson, a passenger in Jackson’s vehicle to Hazard ARH Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Medical Air Evac flew Bobby Morgan to Holston Valley Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. KSP Post 13 was contacted by Holston Valley Medical Center at 2:03 a.m. this morning advising that Bobby Morgan had died as a result of injuries suffered in this crash.
Contributing factors as to the cause of this crash have not been determined. Seat belts were in use in the Jackson and Miller vehicles, but Bobby Morgan was not wearing one at the time of the collision. Master Tpr. Rob Farley with KSP Post 13 is leading this investigation.
