Kentucky State Police Investigate Knott County UTV Fatal

TALCUM, Ky. – On Saturday, September 27, 2025, at approximately 9:37 p.m., Kentucky State Police, Post 13 in Hazard, received a 911 call regarding a single-vehicle utility terrain vehicle (UTV) collision on Starfire Haul Road in the Talcum community of Knott County.

KSP Troopers and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene. Preliminary investigation determined that Chase Caudill, 26, of McDowell, was operating a Polaris UTV when the vehicle overturned. As a result of the rollover, Caudill was partially ejected and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Knott County Coroner’s Office.

A female passenger was also involved in the incident and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

At the time of the collision, neither occupant was utilizing a seat belt or wearing a helmet. An autopsy will not be performed. Toxicology results are pending. This incident remains under investigation by Trooper Kyle Amburgey.
