Kentucky State Police Investigate Letcher County Fatal Accident 

Whitesburg, KY – On Sunday, September 7, 2025, at approximately 1:16 A.M., Kentucky State Police, Post 13 in Hazard, received a 911 call regarding a single-vehicle motorcycle collision on KY-1148 in the Whitesburg community of Letcher County.

Troopers, along with emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and located a deceased male near an off-road dirt bike. The individual was identified as Jonathan Stewart, 30 years old, of Thornton, Kentucky.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Stewart was operating an off-road dirt bike on the roadway when he lost control due to slippery conditions, causing the motorcycle to strike a guardrail. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office.

It was determined that Mr. Stewart was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. Toxicology results are pending. This incident remains under investigation by Trooper Kevin Day.
