Kentucky State Police Post 16 – Male Subject Flees From Traffic Stop in Daviess County and Is Located Holding Onto The Underneath Of The William H. Natcher Bridge

MACEO, Ky. (September 27, 2026) – On Sunday, September 27,2026 at approximately 1:45pm, Kentucky State Police Post 16 Trooper Alena Oakes stopped a passenger car at the intersection of Iceland Spur and US 60 in Daviess County, KY for speeding. During the traffic stop the driver, Christopher Knabel (32) of Tell City, IN, fled the scene on foot into a heavily wooded area. A perimeter was set up with troopers, Daviess County Sheriff’s deputies, and Daviess County Search & Rescue looking for the Knabel. Later, Daviess County Dispatch received a call about a male walking on the William H. Natcher bridge. Kentucky Fish & Wildlife launched a boat onto the Ohio River. A short time later, officers located Knabel holding onto a beam underneath the bridge. US-231 traffic was shut down in both directions as officers attempted to speak with Knabel. Knabel eventually climbed back on top of the bridge, attempted to flee, and was taken into custody by Daviess County deputies. Knabel was charged with Operating Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Controlled Substance 1st Degree, Operating on Suspended/Revoked Operator License, Fleeing and Evading 3rd Degree, Failure to Produce Insurance Card, and Speeding. Knabel was also served (2) outstanding unrelated warrants. Daviess County Sheriff’s Office has pending charges for Knabel involving this incident. Spencer County, IN Sheriff’s Office also assisted with attempting to locate Knabel.
