
KSP Arrests McLean County Man after Pursuit
Christian County Deputy Injured
Hopkinsville, Ky. (Christian County) – The Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville were notified by McLean County Dispatch of a pursuit on October 20, 2020 around 11:19 AM. A McLean County Deputy was pursuing a black motorcycle entering Muhlenberg County.
Troopers joined the pursuit on KY189, just outside of Powderly. The pursuit continued south on KY189 into Christian County, and ended on Old Madisonville Road after the motorcycle struck a Christian County Deputy. The operator of the motorcycle, 30-year-old William Grant Cheatham, of Island, Ky., was then arrested without further incident. The deputy was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
William Grant Cheatham was lodged in the Christian County Detention Center, where KSP charged him with the following:
- Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
- Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
- Assault 2nd Degree- Police Officer
- Speeding 26 MPH or > Speed Limit
- Reckless Driving
- Resisting Arrest
Cheatham was additionally charged by the McLean County Sheriff’s Department.
