Kentucky State Police Post 2 Investigates Muhlenberg County Death

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (October 7, 2026) – On October 5, 2026, the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check at a residence on Wild Horse Lane in Bremen, Kentucky. Deputies located a deceased female inside the residence and contacted Kentucky State Police Post 2 for assistance.

Troopers identified the female as 39-year-old Amber DeArmond of Drakesboro, Kentucky. A preliminary investigation indicates DeArmond suffered a gunshot wound to the head. An autopsy has been requested. The Muhlenberg County Coroner’s Office assisted with the investigation, and DeArmond’s family was notified.

Troopers later located 33-year-old Skyler Shanks of Bremen, Kentucky, on KY-70. Shanks attempted to avoid law enforcement by hiding underneath the porch of a residence before fleeing on foot. Troopers gave Shanks verbal commands to stop as he fled toward a wooded area. Trooper Leevi McMillin U/927 deployed his Taser and Shanks was taken into custody.

Shanks was lodged in the Muhlenberg County Detention Center and charged with murder-domestic violence, tampering with physical evidence, criminal trespassing in the first degree, fleeing or evading police in the first degree, resisting arrest, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and public intoxication.

Detective Kirby Broadbent, U/731, of the Kentucky State Police is the lead investigator. The investigation remains ongoing.
