Hart County Collision Results in Fatality

Munfordville, KY. (November 23, 2020) –  On November 23, 2020, Kentucky State Police Post 3 responded to a two vehicle injury collision just after 12:30 pm.  The collision occurred on Cub Run Highway just west of Munfordville in Hart County.

The preliminary investigation indicated that 24 year-old Johnny W. Moran III of Leitchfield was operating a 2014 Volkswagen Passat southbound near the 1200 block of Cub Run Hwy.  A 2000 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer being operated by 64 year-old Bennie Sims of Clarkson was traveling northbound on Cub Run Hwy in the same area.  Moran’s vehicle crossed the center dividing line and entered into the northbound lane of travel, striking Sims’ truck in a head-on manner.

Johnny Moran III was transported by Hart County EMS to the Medical Center at Caverna where he was pronounced deceased.  There were no other injuries sustained in the collision.

The investigation is still ongoing and being conducted by Trooper Bo Hubbard.  He was assisted on scene by Munfordville Fire Department, Bonnieville Fire Department, Hart County Coroner’s Office, Hart County EMS, Hart County Sheriff’s Department, Munfordville Police Department, Hart County Emergency Management and KSP personnel.  No other details are available for release at this time.
