
Two Vehicle Collision Results in Fatality on Interstate 65

Bowling Green, KY (May 20, 2018)- The Kentucky State Police Post 3, Bowling Green received a call of a two vehicle injury collision involving a commercial vehicle, at 11:06 this morning. The collision had occurred northbound, near the 19 mile marker of Interstate 65. Post 3 Troopers and Commercial Vehicle Officers responded to the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicated that Charles D. Elzy (74) of Louisville, KY was operating a 2018 Hyundai Tucson, and was traveling northbound on Interstate 65 when his vehicle exited the roadway striking a disabled commercial vehicle, which was parked in the emergency lane. The commercial vehicle, a 2004 International semi-truck and trailer combination, was occupied by Robert W. Humphrey (48) of Johnson City, TN.
Charles Elzy was transported to the Medical Center Hospital in Bowling Green by Medical Center EMS, however succumbed to his injuries a short time later. No other injuries were reported in the collision.
The investigation is still ongoing and being conducted by Trooper Daniel Priddy. He was assisted on the scene by Bowling Green Fire Department, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Medical Center EMS, and Department of Transportation SAFE Patrol. No further information is available for release at this time.
