KSP Conducting Fatal Collision Investigation in Barren County

Glasgow, KY. (September 3, 2020) – On Thursday, September 3, 2020, at approximately 6:30 AM, Troopers from Post 3 responded to a two vehicle collision near the 14 mile marker of the Cumberland Parkway in Barren County.

Preliminary investigation indicates that 24 year-old Cassie Horton, of Glasgow, was operating a 2017 Ford Fiesta eastbound on the Cumberland Parkway when her vehicle crossed the median and entered into westbound lanes. The vehicle operated by Horton struck a 2015 Volvo semi truck being operated by 60 year-old Stevie Surgener, of Eubank, Ky, that was traveling west.

Cassie Horton was fatally injured in the collision and pronounced deceased on the scene by the Barren County Coroner.  An 8 month-old passenger in Horton’s vehicle was transported to T.J. Samson Hospital and later flown to Kosair’s Children’s Hospital.  The juvenile is listed in stable condition at this time.  Stevie Surgener was uninjured in the collision.

The collision is under investigation by Trooper Mike Wathen.  He was assisted on the scene by Barren-Metcalfe County EMS, Glasgow Police Department, Glasgow Fire Department and other KSP personnel.
