KSP Investigates Pedestrian Killed On I-65 In Hardin Co.

Elizabethtown, Ky. (October 19, 2020)– Kentucky State Police Post 4 Troopers responded early Monday morning after a vehicle struck two pedestrians resulting in one fatality in Hardin Co.  On October 19, 2020 at approximately 3:53 A.M. EDT, KSP Post 4 received a call of a collision northbound on I-65 near the 97-mile marker in Hardin County. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2020 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Kaylan Jones 25 of Chicago, IL, was traveling northbound on I-65 when it struck the cable barrier before coming to a stop in the roadway. A semi-tractor trailer also traveling north struck Jone’s vehicle, before then side swiping another tractor-trailer in an adjacent lane. A passerby, Michael Fizer 48 years old of Elizabethtown, stopped to give assistance to the occupants of the Malibu. As Fizer and Jones were standing outside their vehicles, near the cable barrier, a 2018 Infiniti passenger car swerved to the inside emergency lane to avoid the Malibu in the roadway striking Jones and Fizer.

Fizer was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner’s Office. Jones was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The two other passenger’s in Jones’ vehicle and the two occupants of Infiniti were not injured. Northbound traffic on I-65 was detoured while the roadway was shut down for approximately seven hours to allow troopers to investigate the collision. The collision is still under investigation by Detective/Reconstructionist Bryan Washer.
