Kentucky State Police Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting in Nelson County

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (Feb. 4, 2024) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 4 has been requested to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Feb. 3 at approximately 8:30 p.m. EST in Nelson County. At the request of the Bardstown Police Department (BPD), KSP Post 4 Troopers and Detectives responded to the Taco Bell restaurant located at the intersection of KY 245 and Frost Ave. in Bardstown.

No officers or other members of the community were injured during the incident. The suspect was arrested and charged by BPD for a previous outstanding warrant in addition to new charges including disorderly conduct, menacing, wanton endangerment, and resisting arrest. He was lodged by in the Nelson Co. Detention Center.

KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the Commonwealth as requested by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.  KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation.  To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered.  Timelines to complete investigations vary based on the complexity of the case.
