Kentucky State Police Investigates Fatal Collision in Bardstown
Bardstown, KY. (March 10, 2021) – Kentucky State Police Post 4 troopers responded to a two-vehicle collision in Bardstown early Wednesday morning. On March 10, 2021 at approximately 6:19 A.M., KSP Post 4 received a call from the Bardstown Police Department requesting assistance in investigating a two-vehicle fatal collision on Highway 245, just north of Templin Avenue.
The preliminary investigation revealed that James Milburn, age 24 of Springfield, was traveling south on Highway 245 in a 2011 Kia Optima. For unknown reasons, Milburn’s vehicle crossed the center line and into the northbound lane where it struck a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta head on; driven by Joseph Daughtery, age 19 of Bloomfield.
Daughtery was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Nelson County Coroner’s Office. Milburn was flown to University of Louisville Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. A portion of Highway 245 was closed for several hours to allow troopers to reconstruct the collision. KSP Post 4 was assisted at the scene by the Bardstown Police Department, Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, Nelson County EMS, Bardstown Fire Department and the Nelson County Coroner’s Office. The collision is still under investigation by reconstructionist Trooper Kevin Dreisbach.
