Kentucky State Police Post 4 Gears Up for the All-American Buckle Up

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (May 13, 2025) – As Memorial Day approaches, the Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 4 is joining law enforcement agencies across the nation in Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness Reduction Effort) from May 12-26. This high-visibility enforcement effort from the International Association of Chiefs of Police coincides with the national Click It or Ticket campaign. Both aim to reduce traffic fatalities by promoting consistent seat belt use during the busy summer travel period.

This year’s theme, the All-American Buckle Up, reminds Kentuckians that honoring our nation starts with protecting the lives of those who ride with us.

“Summer and the upcoming Memorial Day holiday bring more traffic, and with that comes greater risk,” said KSP Captain Jeremy Smith. “Wearing a seat belt is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself and your loved ones in a crash. We want everyone to arrive home safely, not just for Memorial Day, but every day.”

During the two-week enforcement period, KSP troopers will increase their presence on highways and local roads, looking for seat belt violations, impaired drivers and other behaviors that put lives at risk.

To help Kentuckians stay safe, KSP offers the following travel reminders:

  • Buckle Up First – Before you put the car in drive, ensure everyone is buckled, including backseat passengers and children in proper restraints.
  • Plan Ahead – Expect heavier traffic and allow extra time to reach your destination. Rushed driving often leads to risky decisions.
  • Celebrate Responsibly – If you plan to drink, plan for a sober ride. Impaired driving puts everyone at risk.
  • Report Dangerous Drivers – If you see someone driving recklessly or distracted, report it to your local law enforcement agency. You can find your nearest KSP post by viewing the Post Map on KSP’s website.

KSP reminds everyone that safe driving habits save lives. By making responsible choices, motorists can help ensure Kentucky’s roads remain safe for all.

KSP’s mission is to improve public safety, maintain critical services, and better reflect the diverse communities it serves. For more information about KSP’s commitment to creating a better Kentucky, click here
