Kentucky State Police Investigates Fatal Collision in Nelson County
BARDSTOWN, Ky. (May 15, 2026) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 4 in Elizabethtown is investigating a two vehicle collision resulting in the death of a Nelson County man. On Friday, May 15, 2026, at approximately 4:15 p.m., KSP Post 4 received a call requesting assistance with a two-vehicle injury collision on Shepherdsville Road (KY 245) near the 3945 block in Bardstown.
The preliminary investigation indicates a 2015 blue Cadillac SRX, operated by Teudis Hernandez, 51, of Louisville, Kentucky, was traveling southbound on KY 245 when the vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes of travel. The Cadillac collided head-on with a 1966 red Ford Mustang traveling northbound, operated by Edward Hovan, 79, of Coxs Creek, Kentucky.
Edward Hovan was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Nelson County Coroner’s Office. A passenger in the Mustang, Christine Hovan, 71, also of Coxs Creek, sustained severe injuries and was transported to University of Louisville Hospital, where she remains in critical condition. The operator of the Cadillac, Teudis Hernandez, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital for treatment.
As a result of the investigation, Hernandez was charged with:
- Murder
- Assault, 1st Degree
- Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Substances, 1st Offense
- Operating on a Suspended or Revoked License
- Failure to Produce Insurance Card
Hernandez was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
The collision remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Post 4 Detective Kevin Dreisbach. KSP was assisted at the scene by Bardstown Police Department, Nelson County EMS, Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, Bardstown Fire Department and the Nelson County Coroner.
