Kentucky State Police Investigates Fatal Collision in Nelson County

BARDSTOWN, Ky.  (July 16, 2025) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) responded to a two-vehicle collision in Nelson County Monday afternoon that resulted in a fatality.  

On July 14, around 3:00 P.M. EDT, KSP Post 4 received a call from the Nelson County Dispatch requesting KSP investigate a two-vehicle collision near the intersection of Boston Road and Bennett Lane.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Laura Gilpin, 77, of Bardstown, was operating a 2019 KIA westbound on Boston Road when, for unknown reasons, she crossed the center line and struck a 2010 Dodge Avenger operated by Jasmine Simpson, 26, of Lebanon Junction.

Gilpin was transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. Simpson and a juvenile passenger were transported to University of Louisville Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.  

The affected portion of Boston Road was closed for several hours to allow troopers to reconstruct the collision. KSP Post 4 was assisted at the scene by the Nelson Co. Sheriff’s Office, Nelson Co. EMS and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The collision remains under investigation by reconstructionist Trooper Scott Wheatley.
