Kentucky State Police Investigates Fatal Vehicle-Pedestrian Collision in Cloverport
CLOVERPORT, Ky. (August 31, 2026) –On Monday, August 31, 2026 at 4:33 p.m. CST, the Cloverport Police Department contacted Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 4 regarding a vehicle-pedestrian collision involving an 11-year-old child. The collision occurred on Elm Street near the intersection of Seventh Street in Cloverport (Breckinridge County).
KSP Post 4 Troopers and other emergency personnel responded to the scene and began an investigation. The child was transported by helicopter to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville with life-threatening injuries.
Despite lifesaving efforts, the child succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Jefferson County Coroner at 9:12 p.m. EST.
The preliminary investigation indicates the 11-year-old child was riding a scooter and entered Elm Street, traveling into the path of a passenger vehicle operated by Dalton Kellems, 22, of Cloverport. Kellems stopped and remained at the scene to render aid to the child.
KSP was assisted at the scene by Cloverport Police Department, Breckinridge County EMS, Hardinsburg Police Department and the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation remains ongoing by Detective Jesse Harp. No further information is available at this time.
