KSP Investigates Fatal Collision Involving A Bicycle In Hardin Co.

Radcliff, KY.  (September 20, 2018) – Kentucky State Police Post 4 Troopers responded to a collision where a vehicle struck a bicyclist early Thursday morning in Hardin County.  At approximately 3:52 A.M. EDT, KSP Post 4 received a call from Radcliff Police Department dispatch stating a vehicle had struck a bicyclist near the North Dixie Hwy (US 31W) and Bullion Boulevard interchange in Hardin County.  The preliminary investigation revealed, Brian D. Casey (58) of Rineyville, was traveling southbound on US 31W when he struck Charles Montgomery (24) of Louisville, who was operating a bicycle in the southbound emergency lane of US 31W. After striking Montgomery, Casey continued driving southbound before stopping on Preston Street in Radcliff. Montgomery was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner’s Office.

Casey was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and was later charged with driving under the influence 1st degree, manslaughter 2nd degree and leaving the scene of the accident/ failure to render aid with death or serious physical injury. He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center. The Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by the Radcliff Police Department, Hardin County Coroner’s Office and Hardin County EMS. The accident is still under investigation by Detective/Reconstructionist Bryan Washer.
