Kentucky State Police Participate in Special Olympics Torch Run in Grant County 

Dry Ridge, Ky. (May 23, 2024) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 6 – Dry Ridge, along with local law enforcement agencies, participated in a Law Enforcement Torch Run on May 23, 2024, raising awareness for the Special Olympics movement. 

KSP Post 6 – Dry Ridge, Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Williamstown Police Department, Grant County Detention Center and Ark Encounter Public Safety all had personnel participating in the run.  The Torch Run began at 118 School Road in Dry Ridge and finished at the Grant County Courthouse in Williamstown (3.1 miles). 

Special Olympic Athletes from Grant County, and surrounding areas, joined in the Torch Run at the Williamstown Fire Department and finished the run with law enforcement officers at the courthouse.    

Beverly Bass, coordinator for Grant County Special Olympics stated, “To see all the different branches of our local law enforcement come together today to support our athletes meant so much to me and our athletes!  It was awesome listening to them all cheering for our athletes as they were finishing the final leg of the Torch Run.  Today was an amazing day!  I can’t wait till next year!” 

Captain Scott Lengle, Commander of KSP Post 6 – Dry Ridge said, “The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is the largest public awareness campaign for Special Olympics.  KSP was grateful to participate with Grant County law enforcement agencies in this endeavor.  KSP looks forward in assisting with the Kentucky 2024 Special Olympics State Summer Games on May 31st and June 1st in Richmond, KY.”
