Kentucky State Police Post 6 Unveils Life-Saving Rollover Simulator Funded by Local Foundation
DRY RIDGE, Ky. (May 23, 2025) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 6, Dry Ridge, is proud to announce the addition of a new rollover simulator courtesy of a generous donation of $40,500 by the James A. and Martha R. Brown Foundation. A check presentation was held today at the KSP Training Academy in Frankfort, and members of the foundation were in attendance to commemorate the partnership.
The Rollover Simulator demonstrates the consequences when a driver or passenger disobeys Kentucky law by not wearing a seat belt. The simulator uses a test dummy to replicate a rollover crash at 30 MPH. The demonstration is shown in two phases, comparing the impact of a seat-belted dummy versus one without a seat belt. In the latter case, the dummy is thrown from the vehicle, underscoring the serious, and often fatal, costs of failing to buckle up.
“The generosity of the James A. and Martha R. Brown Foundation is helping us save lives,” said Trooper David Jones, Public Affairs Officer for KSP Post 6. “The rollover simulator is one of the most effective ways to show the real consequences of not wearing a seatbelt. We’re grateful for this donation and what it will mean for public safety in our communities.”
The James A. and Martha R. Brown Foundation is the legacy of Jim and Martha Brown, who were prominent business leaders and philanthropists. The Foundation was established in 2018 as a continuation of their lifetime of enhancing and supporting communities. This donation will enhance KSP’s ongoing efforts to educate the public, especially young drivers, about the dangers of not wearing a seat belt.
“When the James A. and Martha R. Brown Foundation was presented with this grant request, it was an easy yes,” said Board of Directors Member Harry Richart. “These sorts of things are too important. We are delighted to partner with the Kentucky State Police and to support safety initiatives that save lives.”
This life-saving tool will be utilized by KSP across the commonwealth, helping educate Kentuckians far beyond the Post 6 area. KSP provides free teen driver safety programs for Kentucky schools. Programs include distracted driving, impaired driving, and seat belt safety with hands-on educational resources. A uniformed trooper will provide sessions that include training tools such as our rollover simulator, driving simulators, crash trailer, and substance abuse educational exhibit.
