UPDATE – KSP Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting in Boone County

Paducah, KY. (July 5, 2020) – The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team has continued its investigation into an officer involved shooting that occurred Monday, June 29th. Preliminary autopsy reports show John Parks died as a result of gunshot wounds sustained after an altercation with law enforcement. Detective Dustin Awbery with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office fired his service weapon during the altercation, striking Parks. The investigation is ongoing by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team and Kentucky State Police, Post 1.

Dry Ridge, KY (June 29, 2020) – The Medical Examiner in Louisville, KY, has identified the deceased as Michael T Pelly (33) of Hebron. The investigation continues by Detective William Howard . No other details are available for release at this time.

Hebron, KY.
 (June 27, 2020) – The Kentucky State Police, Post 6 in Dry Ridge, was contacted by Boone County 911 just after 4:30 a.m. this morning about an officer-involved shooting. The incident occurred around the 1800 block of Petersburg Road in Hebron.

The preliminary investigation indicates Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies had several encounters with a male suspect who eluded from them multiple times this morning. Deputies received information the male suspect was located at Petersburg Road in Hebron, KY. Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies responded and made contact with the man, who brandished a knife and charged at deputies. As a result of the encounter, a deputy discharged their duty weapon, striking and injuring the man. He was transported to St. Elizabeth in Florence where he later was pronounced deceased.

Additional information and the identity of the man is not available for release at this time. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP’s Critical Incident Response Team and is being led by Detective William Howard. He was assisted on scene by Kentucky State Police personnel.
