Kentucky State Police Post 6 Investigate a Fatal Collision In Bracken County

BROOKSVILLE, Ky. (June 28, 2026) –On June 27, 2026, the Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 6 was requested by the Bracken County Dispatch to investigate a fatal collision on KY 9 (AA Highway) at Dutch Ridge Road. The investigation determined that a 2004 Ford SUV operated by Brandon Barrett of Ohio was traveling west on AA Highway and was attempting to pass on a double yellow line when it struck a 2024 Kia head-on. The driver, Tyler Smith, and front seat passenger, Emily Smith, both of Bracken County, were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Bracken County Coroner. The driver of the 2004 Ford SUV was transported to the UK Medical Center for injuries. The collision remains under investigation by the KSP Collision Reconstructionist. KSP was assisted at the scene by Bracken County EMS, Bracken County Fire, and Bracken County Sheriff’s Office.
