Kentucky State Police Investigate Fatal Collision in Mercer County
Salvisa, Ky. (March 10, 2026) – The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, was contacted just before 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2026, in reference to a two-vehicle collision on Louisville Road (US-127) in Mercer County.
The initial investigation indicates a Rumpke trash truck, operated by Jeremy Caudill, 35, of Hustonville, Kentucky, was stopped northbound on Louisville Road collecting trash at a residence when it was struck from the rear by a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Jason McCarty, 44, of Harrodsburg, Kentucky.
As a result of the collision, Mr. McCarty sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Mercer County Coroner. Mr. Caudill was not injured in the collision.
The collision remains under investigation and is being reconstructed by Detective Tyler Holt. He was assisted on the scene by Kentucky State Police personnel, Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, Mercer County EMS, Mercer County Fire Department, and Mercer County Coroner’s Office.
