
Kentucky State Police Conducts Murder Investigation in Jackson County
MCKEE, Ky. (May 19, 2025) – On May 18, 2025, just before 3:00 p.m., Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, received a call from Jackson County Sheriff’s Department requesting investigative assistance in regards to a deceased male located inside a vehicle on Richardson Road in McKee.
Kentucky State Police Troopers, Detectives, and Jackson County Coroner Lonnie Hacker responded to the area.
Preliminary investigation revealed James D. Carmack, 40 years of age, from Irvine, KY, sustained a fatal gunshot wound inflicted by an unknown individual who fled the scene before law enforcement’s arrival. An autopsy will be performed at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort.

The investigation is ongoing by KSP Detective David Hobbs; foul play is suspected. He was assisted on scene by KSP personnel, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Jackson County Coroner’s Office.
