
KSP Investigates Murders in Martin County – Update May 3rd
Update (May 3rd 2018) This case was presented to the Martin County Grand Jury today.
As the result of all the evidence presented, and testimony given by the Detective leading this case an Indictment was returned and a warrant issued for the arrest of Lance Ward (28) of Williamson West Virginia. (3) counts of murder and (2) counts of robbery 1st degree.
Mr. Ward is currently incarcerated in Williamson West Virginia on unrelated charges.

Update (March 28, 2018) The vehicle belonging to Amber Lockard, which was entered into NCIC has been located. It is not known at this time if it pertains to the murder case. The vehicle will be processed and check for any evidence for the case.

Update (March 27, 2018) This investigation is now updated to three (3) murders. Amber Lockard has succumbed to the injuries she sustained on the 23rd. Detectives are in the area today collecting evidence on the case. Several new leads which are considered to be crucial to the case have been discovered in the past few days. More information will be released as it is available.

Update (March 24, 2018) The third person in this investigation remains in the hospital in critical condition. Amber Lockard (31) from Huddy KY. Detectives have been conducting interviews and collecting evidence today. As the case develops more information will be released.

Update (March 23, 2018) Two of the victims from the scene in Martin County have been identified. Micah Sammons (20) from the Kimper area and, Derek L. James (26) from Huddy, both in Pike County. The third victim’s name has not been released, and remains in the hospital in critical condition.
More information is expected on the investigation, and will be released as they develop.

Warfield KY (March 23rd 2018) Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post 09 is investigating an incident in the Warfield area of Martin County. At 1:27 pm Post 09 received a call of three (3) bodies being found on a strip mine road just inside Martin County across the Pike County line.
Upon arrival of the first Trooper it was confirmed one person was still alive and needed EMS. The person was transported to South Williamson ARH.
Kentucky State Police Detectives are now on the scene and the investigation continues. More information will be released as it becomes available.
