Kentucky State Police Investigates Fatal Traffic Collision in Lewis County

VANCEBURG, Ky. (December, 11, 2025) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 8 Morehead was contacted by Lewis County Dispatch around 3:05 p.m. in reference to a traffic collision that resulted in a fatality at the junction of KY 9 and KY 59.

The preliminary investigation determined that Amber N. Cole, 40 of Morehead Kentucky and passenger Gary D. Cole 39 also from Morehead, were traveling Southbound on KY 59 in a 2015 Jeep Patriot. As they attempted to proceed through the intersection at KY 9, they failed to yield to a Westbound commercial vehicle operated by Cody Reed, 32 of Tollesboro Kentucky, causing a collision.  As a result of this collision, both Mr. and Mrs. Cole were pronounced deceased by Lewis County Coroner at the scene. Mr. Reed was not injured and refused treatment from EMS on scene.

KSP was assisted on scene by Vanceburg Police Department, Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, Vanceburg Fire Department and Lewis County Coroner. This collision is being reconstructed and remains under investigation by Trooper Dakota Rasche.
