Kentucky State Police Conduct Death Investigation in Wolfe County

CAMPTON, Ky. (January, 1, 2026) – On Wednesday, December 31, 2025 around 2:30 p.m. Kentucky State Police (KSP) post 8 was contacted by United Clinic in Campton stating there was a lady in the clinic whom disclosed that she had aborted her pregnancy at her residence on Flat Mary Road.

Troopers and Detectives arrived at the clinic and launched an investigation. Detectives interviewed Melinda S. Spencer, 35 of Campton Kentucky.  Ms. Spencer stated to detectives that she had ordered medication online to complete an abortion. Ms. Spencer took the medication which resulted in the death of a developed male infant. Ms. Spencer then buried the infant on the backside of her property in a shallow grave. 

Troopers and Detectives responded near the 3700 block of Flat Mary Road where they located the infant in a shallow grave just as Ms. Spencer had stated. As a result of this investigation KSP arrested Melinda S. Spencer charging her with Fetal Homicide 1st degree, Abuse of a Corpse and Tampering with Physical Evidence. 

KSP was assisted by Wolfe County Sheriff’s Office and Wolfe County Coroner’s Office. This case remains under investigation by Detective Paul Thomas.
