Kentucky State Police Post 8 Joins National Operation C.A.R.E. For Super Bowl Sunday

High-visibility enforcement tackles impaired driving and promotes safe travel

MOREHEAD, Ky. (February, 6, 2026) –As thousands of Kentuckians travel to watch parties and gatherings for Super Bowl Sunday, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 8 will participate in Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort) on February 8 to help keep roadways safe.

Operation C.A.R.E. is a nationwide initiative by the International Association of Chiefs of Police designed to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities through proactive enforcement and public education. With increased traffic expected on Super Bowl Sunday, troopers will be monitoring for impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving and seatbelt violations.

“Our priority is simple: preventing crashes before they happen,” said Acting Post Commander Lt. Bobby King. “Super Bowl celebrations should never come at the cost of someone’s life. A few responsible choices behind the wheel can make all the difference for families across our community.”

During the enforcement effort, troopers will be highly visible on interstates, parkways and local roadways. KSP encourages motorists to make safety part of their Super Bowl plans by following these reminders:

  • Make Transportation Arrangements – If alcohol will be involved, decide how you’re getting home before kickoff. Use a sober driver, rideshare service or public transportation.
  • Slow Down and Leave Space – Speeding and tailgating significantly increase crash risk, especially during nighttime travel. Allow extra time and following distance.
  • Buckle Up – Seatbelts remain one of the most effective ways to prevent serious injury in a crash.
  • Watch for Others on the Road – Be alert for impaired drivers, pedestrians and emergency responders, particularly after the game ends.

Motorists who observe a driver they believe may be impaired or driving recklessly are encouraged to contact their nearest KSP post or local law enforcement agency.

The Kentucky State Police reminds everyone that safe decisions on the road help ensure Super Bowl Sunday ends with celebration, not tragedy.
