Kentucky State Police Post 8 Investigate Fatal Collision in Bath County

OWINGSVILLE, Ky. (April, 27, 2026) – On Sunday April 26 Bath County Dispatch contacted Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 8 Morehead around 11:00 a.m. requesting assistance on a fatal collision on Interstate 64 near mile marker 119.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Barbara Smith, 60 of Mount Sterling Kentucky, was operating her 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle East bound when she left the roadway and struck a rock embankment. Miss Smith sustained fatal injuries as a result of this collision and was pronounced deceased on the scene by Bath County Coroner Andrew Owens.

Bath County Fire and EMS, Bath County Sheriff’s Department and Bath County Coroner assisted KSP on scene. This collision remains under investigation by Trooper Tanner Tout.
