Kentucky State Police Post 8 Investigate Fatal Collision in Powell County

STANTON, Ky. (May, 27, 2026) – On Tuesday May 26 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 8 received a call from Powell County Dispatch requesting assistance with a single vehicle fatality collision.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Luke J. Pierce, 19 of Mount Sterling Kentucky, was traveling North bound along Morris Creek Road in Powell County when he lost control of his vehicle causing it to leave the roadway traveling over an embankment striking a tree. Mr. Pierce was pronounced deceased at the scene by Powell County Coroner Megan Wells-Curtis.

KSP was assisted on scene by Powell County Sheriff’s Office, Powell County Fire and EMS and Powell County Coroner. This collision remains under investigation by Trooper Austin Miller.
