Search Warrant Leads to Drug Arrest  

The Appalachia HIDTA Gateway Area Task Force was started in January 2019

Mt. Sterling, KY. (June 5, 2019) —The Appalachia HIDTA Gateway Area Drug Task Force which is comprised of Detectives from the Kentucky State Police, Mount Sterling Police Department, Stanton Police Department and Special Agents with the ATF with assistance from additional units with the Kentucky State Police and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office conducted an operations that resulted in several arrests.

 

On June 4th, 2019 after an approximate three (3) month investigation by the Gateway Area Drug Task Force, that culminated in the execution of two search warrants in Montgomery and Fayette Counties that resulted in Dismantlement of a Drug Trafficking Organization or (DTO) and the arrest of nine (9) Montgomery County, Fayette County, and Pike County residents.

 

Several of the suspects involved have previously been investigated and arrested for drug trafficking offenses.

 

The investigation resulted in the seizure of over 1/2 pound of Crystal Methamphetamine, suspected Heroin, suspected Fentanyl, Suspected Fentanyl Pills, a pill press, cash, and property.  The investigation is not complete, multiple other arrests are expected.

 

The (SOS) or Source of Supply DeAngelo D. Smith originally from Detroit Michigan has been responsible for supplying, transporting, and distributing multiple pounds of Crystal Methamphetamine and Heroin to Montgomery and surrounding counties. Smith has been responsible for and assisted by multiple other persons in this ongoing criminal drug trafficking conspiracy. DeAngelo Darnell Smith “AKA BOP” has been charged with the following:

Appalachia Hidta

 

The Appalachia HIDTA mission is to enhance and coordinate drug enforcement efforts of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies within areas designated as High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas by pursuing the disruption/dismantlement of Drug Trafficking Organizations, particularly as it relates to the specific drug threat of the Appalachian region.

 

The Appalachia HIDTA Gateway Area Task Force was started in January 2019 with the inclusion of Montgomery and Powell County in the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area designated counties.
