Kentucky State Police Morehead Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Wolfe County

Campton, KY. (July 14, 2021) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 8 Morehead has been requested by the Wolfe County Sheriff’s Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred this morning in Wolfe County.

Preliminary information reveals that a Wolfe County Deputy made contact with an armed male subject. During the incident, the male subject fled from the deputy on foot. During the pursuit, the subject charged the deputy. A physical struggle over the deputy’s agency issued firearm ensued between the subject and deputy. During this struggle, the deputy was shot.

The male subject did not sustain any injuries and was arrested. The Wolfe County Deputy was transported to Kentucky River Medical Center in Breathitt County for non-life threatening injuries.

No other officers or members of the community were injured during this incident.

KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local law enforcement agencies. KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP Standard Operating Procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered.  Timelines to complete investigations vary based on the complexity of the case. The investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
