
Kentucky State Police Investigate Collision Involving Horse and Buggy
OWINGSVILLE, Ky. (July 25, 2025) – On Thursday, July 24, 2025, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 8 Morehead was notified by Bath County Dispatch of a hit and run collision on KY 11 in Bath County involving a Amish horse and buggy.
Preliminary investigation shows that Ricardo Geronimo Salas, 21, of Mt. Sterling was operating his Toyota Camry along KY 11 when he struck a Amish buggy being pulled by a horse. After striking the buggy Mr. Salas stopped to check the damage on his car then fled the scene. Bath County EMS responded to the scene and transported three juveniles to the University of Kentucky Hospital for their injuries. The juveniles were treated and released for non life threatening injuries. The operator of the buggy was not injured in the collision.
Mr. Salas was located a very short time later by Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department. Trooper Leal and Trooper Spencer arrived at the scene and took Mr. Salas into custody. Mr. Salas was charged with the following: Assault 1st degree (4 counts), Leaving Scene of Accident/Failure to render aid, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Operating Motor Vehicle U/Infl Alcohol 1st, Operating on Suspended License, Reckless Driving and Failure of Owner to Maintain Insurance.
KSP was assisted by Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Bath County Sheriff’s Office and Bath County EMS. This collision remains under investigation by Trooper Nathan Shortridge.
