Kentucky State Police Post 8 Focuses on Impaired Driving Ahead of Back-to-School Season
Agency Joins National ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ Campaign August 13 – September 1
MOREHEAD, Ky. (August, 15, 2025) –As students, parents and teachers embark on a new school year, the Kentucky State Police (KSP) is reminding drivers that safety starts behind the wheel. From August 13 through September 1, KSP will participate in the nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign to target impaired drivers and protect families on Kentucky roadways.
This annual effort, led by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), comes at a critical time. With buses back on the roads, school zones in effect and an increase in morning and afternoon traffic, KSP Post 8 Commander, Captain John Dowdy is urging all drivers to stay focused when traveling.
“Back-to-school season brings busy routines and more vehicles on the road,” Captain Dowdy said. “It is a time when we need everyone to be alert, buckle up and never drive under the influence.”
Let’s make the start of this school year a safe one for every Kentucky family. Drive smart, drive sober and help protect the lives of students and staff headed back to class by following these driver safety tips:
- Plan ahead: If you will be drinking, arrange a safe ride before you go out.
- Always wear your seatbelt: It is your best protection in any crash, and it’s the law.
- Be a role model: Young people are watching. Set the example by driving responsibly.
- Report dangerous drivers: If you suspect someone is driving impaired, pull over safely and contact your local KSP post. For a full list of KSP Post locations, visit the KSP website.
KSP remains committed to promoting public safety through enforcement and education. Initiatives like the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” are critical in reducing preventable crashes and ensuring Kentucky’s highways remain safe for all travelers.
