Kentucky State Police Conducts Death Investigation in Pike County 

ELKHORN CITY, Ky. (June 6, 2025) – The Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post was notified on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 by the Elkhorn City Police Department of a deceased individual discovered in a creek in the Elkhorn City community of Pike County.

KSP troopers and investigators responded to the scene near Big Branch Road, where the body of a deceased male was located in the water.

The initial investigation identified the individual as Adam Stanley, 48, of Haysi, Virginia, who had previously been reported missing to law enforcement in Virginia. Mr. Stanley was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pike County Coroner’s Office. His body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The cause of death remains under investigation.

Detective Jason Merlo is leading the investigation, with assistance from KSP personnel and the Elkhorn City Police Department.
