UPDATE: Kentucky State Police Conducts Death Investigation in Floyd County

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (November 24, 2025) – The Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post has made an arrest in connection with this investigation.

Following the ongoing investigative efforts, troopers took 35-year-old Joshua Gayheart of Beaver into custody. He has been lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center and is currently charged with Murder.

BEAVER, Ky. (November 21, 2025) – The Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post received a call from Prestonsburg 911 on Friday, November 21, 2025, requesting assistance regarding an unresponsive female in the Beaver community of Floyd County.

KSP troopers and investigators responded to the 14000 block of Kentucky Route 979 where they discovered a deceased female. 

The initial investigation indicated Sarah Slone, 35 years old of Beaver, suffered a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Floyd County Coroner’s Office. Slone’s body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. 

Detective Dylan Mullins is leading the investigation and was assisted on scene by KSP personnel.
