Kentucky State Police Post 9 Conducts Assault Investigation in Pike County 

FREEBURN, KY. (December 09, 2025) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 9, Pikeville, received a 911 call on Saturday, December 6, 2025, regarding an unresponsive female in the Freeburn community of Pike County.

Troopers responded to a residence on Chestnut Branch, where they located Nancy Gearles of Freeburn unresponsive near her home. Gearles appeared to have suffered multiple lacerations, bruising, and burns to various areas of her body. Troopers also discovered that her residence had recently been on fire.

As a result of the investigation, Angel Hunt, 28 years old, of Wharncliff, West Virginia, was taken into custody and lodged in the Pike County Detention Center. Hunt is currently charged with Murder (Attempted), Assault 1st Degree, Strangulation 1st Degree, and Arson 1st Degree.

Trooper Terry Mounts is leading the investigation and was assisted on scene by additional KSP personnel.
