Kentucky State Police Investigates Two Vehicle Fatal Collision in Johnson County

HAGERHILL, Ky. (March 13, 2026) – Kentucky State Police Post 9, Pikeville, received notification of a two-vehicle injury collision at approximately 1:31 p.m. on March 12, 2026. The collision occurred on Kentucky Route 321 in the Hagerhill community of Johnson County.

The preliminary investigation indicates Retina Meek was operating a 2001 Buick passenger vehicle when the vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 2018 Chevrolet pickup truck operated by Jason Kinner.

Retina Meek and a passenger in the Buick, Anita Meek, were transported to medical facilities for treatment. Both individuals later succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.

The collision remains under investigation by KSP Accident Reconstructionist Detective Matt Smith. Detective Smith was assisted at the scene by personnel from Kentucky State Police Post 9, West Van Lear Volunteer Fire Department, and Paintsville EMS
