Kentucky State Police Post 9 Welcomes New Commander

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (March 17, 2026) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 9 in Pikeville would like to welcome Captain Brad Riley as the new Post Commander.

Captain Riley began his career with the Kentucky State Police as a member of Cadet Class 87 and graduated from the KSP Academy on June 12, 2009. Following graduation, he was assigned to Post 4 in Elizabethtown, where he served as a Trooper until November 2015.

In November 2015, Riley transferred to Executive Security, where he served as a Trooper and was later promoted to Sergeant in September 2016. In January 2017, he transferred to Post 3 in Bowling Green and served as a Squad Sergeant. Later that year, in August 2017, Riley was assigned to the Division of Special Enforcement and Investigations (DESI) West Criminal Interdiction Unit, where he continued serving as a Squad Sergeant until June 2020.

In June 2020, Riley transferred back to Post 4 in Elizabethtown, where he served as the Operations Lieutenant after being promoted to Lieutenant in September 2020. In June 2025, Riley was promoted to Captain and transferred to the Inspections and Evaluations Branch. In September 2025, he was reassigned to the Critical Incident Response Branch. On March 16, 2026, Captain Riley was transferred to Post 9 in Pikeville as the Post Commander.

“It is an honor to serve as the Commander at Post 9,” Captain Riley said. “I look forward to working alongside the dedicated troopers and staff while serving the citizens throughout the communities we represent.”

During his career, Captain Riley has received numerous recognitions, including being named Post Level Trooper of the Year at Post 4 in Elizabethtown in 2011 and 2015. He has also received the Post Level DUI Enforcement Award on two occasions. Riley served as a member of the Kentucky State Police Honor Guard for six years and is a certified Collision Reconstructionist.

Throughout his career, Captain Riley has coordinated numerous high-profile operational details, including Thunder Over Louisville, the Kentucky Derby, and the Kentucky State Fair.

Captain Riley is a native of Grayson County and brings more than 16 years of experience and leadership to Post 9 in Pikeville. Kentucky State Police is proud to welcome him to the Post 9 family as he begins this new role serving the citizens of the region.Bottom of Form
