
Two Die in Perry County Crash
HAZARD, Ky. (November 28, 2017) – A crash in Perry County late Monday evening has resulted in the death of two men.
Troopers with Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard were conducting a Traffic Safety Checkpoint on old KY Highway 80 in the Combs community, when they observed a vehicle abruptly stop prior to their location. The vehicle turned around and sped away, eastbound toward Airport Gardens. Troopers accessed their cruisers and attempted to locate the vehicle in the direction of travel it was last seen heading. A short distance away, they encountered the vehicle, a 2002 Nissan passenger car, which had overturned on the roadway near Turner Brother’s Car Care Center on Combs Road.
Troopers located two individuals who were completely ejected from the car. Johnny Gibson, age 58 of Bulan, KY, was transported to the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased by Perry County Deputy Coroner John Collett. Donovan Miller, age 28 of Leburn, KY, was transported to Hazard ARH, then was later airlifted to Pikeville Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased by Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts.
No autopsies will be performed, and toxicology results on both subjects are pending. Detective Brandon Thomas is leading this investigation with assistance from Detective Scott Caudill.
