Woman Killed in Perry County Crash

 

HAZARD, KY.(January 4, 2018) – Troopers with Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a Breathitt County woman on Thursday afternoon. Troopers responded to the scene on Highway 15 near the Perry and Breathitt County line, in the Engle community of Perry County, after receiving a call advising of the crash at 2:35 p.m.

It was initially determined that a 1992 Cadillac passenger car, driven by 46 year old Bruce Turner of Haddix, was traveling north on Highway 15, when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a guardrail and overturned. The car rolled over an embankment where it struck a utility pole before coming to rest against a tree. A passenger in the car, Annmarie Nickell, age 61 of Haddix, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Perry County Deputy Coroner John Collett. Bruce Turner was transported to Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Seat belts were in use by the driver and passenger at the time of this collision. No autopsy will be performed, and toxicology results from Bruce Turner, which are routinely collected in fatal crash investigations, are pending. Tpr. Daniel Smoot with KSP Post 13 is leading this investigation.
